We've been working on Rachel's science fair project the past few days. Trying to come up with something for a 1st grader to do primarily by themselves and be able to explain can be quite a challenge! But we decided on a project and got started last Friday. We bought 5 white carnations. We put one in plain water, one in water with red food coloring, one in water with blue food coloring, one in water with green food coloring, and we split the stem of one and put half the stem in blue water and the other half in red water. We took pictures every few hours over the week-end to document what was happening. My favorite one was the carnation with the split stem! I love the coloring! Rachel finished her project this evening. She drew a picture of a plant with the parts labeled, then wrote about what she did for her project. She talked about how the stem sucked up the water like a straw to take the water to all the parts of the flower.
Rachel turns in her poster tomorrow, and the winners will be announced Thursday.
This one is my favorite!
