Friday was Rachel's last day of school and after lunch her class had a little awards ceremony. One of the awards was for all the kids who had read 100 or more books at home during the year - they received a trophy for being in the 100 Book Club! Mrs. Wilson was very proud of her class for having 14 kids in the 100 Book Club this year! Next, Mrs. Wilson presented each child with an award based on their personality, accomplishments, etc. Some of the various awards were most improved reader, best reader, best speller, friendliest, most AR (Accelerated Reader) points, etc. Rachel got the most AR points award. Mrs. Wilson also had a gift for the parents. She had a picture taken with each child and put it on a paper along with a poem/letter about giving the child back to the parents. It was really sweet. The kids had worked on individual scrapbooks for things they did throughout the year, so they got those too. The kids (along with help from a couple of moms) made Mrs. Wilson a scrapbook to help her remember this year's 1st grade class! Each child had a special page with a picture of them and a paper that they had illustrated and written something about what Mrs. Wilson had taught them this year. Then there were also various poems about teachers and a few pages of just random photos of the kids taken throughout the year at various times - field trips, class parties, recess, etc. I think it turned out really nice and I hope it's something that Mrs. Wilson appreciates.
Rachel had a great 1st grade year and is excited about starting 2nd grade soon! Here are some pictures from the awards ceremony:
