Katelyn's Outside Fun

We took advantage of the nice weather yesterday to play outside a little bit, even though it was quite windy. Here's a video of our future Lady Vol showing off her dribbling skills.

Rachel's Outside Fun

Yesterday the weather was nice, so we headed outside after getting home from school. Here's a video clip of Rachel showing you how well she can jump rope.

Here's another video clip showing off her hula hoop skills. By the way, the sound you here in the background is Katelyn dribbling the basketball - that's the not the sound of the hula hoop hitting Rachel's hips!!!

My Day Off!!!

My super husband took the day off from his work yesterday and told me that he would take care of everything around here - it was my day off from "work!" He took care of getting the girls up and Rachel ready for school while I dozed in bed! After taking Rachel to school, he and Katelyn went grocery shopping and surprised me with flowers! Now for those of you who know me, I'm not a "girly girl" so getting my nails done or something like that isn't something that I would want to do. So instead of something "girly" like that, I had a private tennis lesson at the club we belong to! It was a lot of fun and hopefully helped my tennis game since the season is getting ready to start. Rachel had a check-up with her allergist/allergy doctor yesterday afternoon, so Robert took her & Katelyn there. I just couldn't not go to her appointment, so I did meet them there (in my tennis attire and sweaty!). Turns out she's got a little bit of pneumonia so she's on antibiotics now (along with everything else she takes for allergies & asthma). Anyway, Robert fixed dinner (yummy enchiladas) for us and then I ended my night chilling out in front of the TV watching American Idol. It may not sound too exciting to you, but it was an enjoyable "day off." Thanks Robert for being the BEST HUSBAND!!! I love you!!

President's Day

Since today is President's Day, Rachel and her classmates have been learning about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. I must admit I'm constantly amazed at how much their minds can absorb. Anyway, she came home one day telling me all about GW being the 1st president and AL being the 16th president. She proceeded to tell me about AL wearing a big tall hat, and then she said that GW wore a pirate hat! I must say that part caught my attention and made me ask her what she was talking about. She said "You know mommy - in those pictures GW has on a pirate's hat." I started thinking about it and realized that the hat that you often see GW wearing DOES look a lot like a pirate's hat! So how's that for a history lesson - GW was a pirate!!! HaHa!!!

While talking about the presidents, she told me that she knew who the current president was and she proceeded to tell me George Bush. I told her she was correct and that I was proud of her for knowing that. She then asked me "Mommy - was George Washington president when you were a little girl?" Wow - just how old does she think I am? When I told her that GW was president long before I was ever born, she asked me if Abraham Lincoln was president when I was little. Oh well, I guess the concept of time is still something she doesn't truly grasp! It provided me a laugh though. I guess if she thinks I'm 200+ years old, I'm looking pretty good!!!

The girls are out of school today for the holiday and it's a good thing. Rachel started running a fever Friday night and by Saturday evening it was over 103. She's been really stuffy and congested, and of course, coughing! Yesterday she started to really act like she felt better and begged us to let her go to praise team and choir last night. But she continued to run a low grade fever yesterday, so she had to stay at home. So far today, she hasn't had a fever at all!! So it looks like she may be over the latest virus.

Katelyn, however, has just started with the virus. She started running a fever yesterday afternoon and still has one today. She too is really congested and coughing a lot. Her cough has turned into a croupy type cough and not her normal asthmatic type cough. Good thing the doc gives us steroids to keep at home for times like this. Looks like we might have to use some tonight. We'll wait and see how she's doing. She has been playing some, but you can tell she doesn't feel great. Luckily, she goes to school on Mondays & Wednesdays, so hopefully she'll be better by Wednesday.

For those of you who get to count today as a holiday, enjoy it!

What a View!

Here's the view from our deck yesterday afternoon! Isn't it gorgeous? (The picture doesn't look near as pretty as it did in person.) Evidently, the Smoky Mountains got a little snow this week. Too bad we didn't get any!!! Oh well, maybe next time!!

Happy Valentine's Day

Okay, so the other night the girls were ready for bed early and I asked them if they wanted to sing some songs for the camera. They were so eager to do it - they love to see themselves on the computer, on TV, in pictures, etc. I asked them if they wanted to say Happy Valentine's Day. Evidently, that would have been too easy. Rachel took it upon her self to compose a little Valentine's Day song right there on the spot! Katelyn did her best at trying to guess what big sis was going to say next. Here's the result:

Tennis Report and Other Misc.

Well, most of you probably know that Robert is a great tennis player! His men's combo team won their local league back last fall, and then went on to win the state in November. This past week-end they were in Baton Rouge playing in the sectional tournament, which is where the winners from the 9 southern states come together and play each other. Robert's team did really well and went 3-1. However, they did come up a little short and weren't able to make it to the finals. Of course, it probably worked out for the best because most of the guys had flights coming home at like 5:30, and because of rain all day Saturday, the Sunday matches got moved back later and the finals ended up being played at like 4:00 in the afternoon! So there was no way they could have played at 4:00 AND made their flights at 5:30! It was a great season for them.

Now it's time to get ready for the spring tennis season! It looks like Robert will be captaining a men's team this spring. I'll be playing on two women's teams this spring in two different divisions. So I should be getting lots of tennis playing in! I haven't played any the past 2 weeks because it has been SO COLD and I'm too cheap to pay to play indoors!!!

The girls are doing pretty well. We have coughing and quite a bit of snot around here, but that's pretty normal for us! Katelyn actually had pneumonia last week, but she's over that now and doing fine. We caught the pneumonia fairly early, so one round of antibiotics seemed to take care of that.

For those of you who know me, you know that I do not like to speak in front of people. However, last week I went and spoke to a class at my parents' church. You see, they were offering the First Place class there for the first time, and my mom had been talking about how I took the class at my church last semester and lost 25+ pounds. So they asked me to come and speak at their first class. I was VERY nervous, but I made it through it. I hope I did okay. I'm sure I talked way too fast and talked with my hands, but hey, that's just me!!! If there's anyone out there trying to decide whether or not to take a First Place class I would say GO FOR IT! It's a great program!

I guess that's enough rambling for now. Stay warm!

The Blizzard of 2007

Okay, so maybe it's not a blizzard! But at least we had a little bit of the white stuff!! Schools were actually called off here for today and tomorrow because of the flu (and of course I'm sure partly due to the threat of snow). We awoke this morning to a light dusting of snow. But we made the most of what little snow we had! Our neighbors Tate (5th grade - oops - Tate has corrected me - he's in 4th grade!) & Carter (5 years old) came and asked us to come over and play with them, so we put on our snow gear and headed out to brave the elements! Tate & Carter have a small hill in their backyard that was a good sledding hill even with just a little bit of snow! The girls had so much fun! Katelyn was hilarious! She would grin and scream the whole way down the hill! Then she would get up and pull her sled back up for another trip down. Rachel had a good time too. Thanks Tate & Carter for letting us come over! We had a lot of fun!!! Here are some pictures of our morning.

Here is Katelyn in her pink snowsuit.

Rachel is actually wearing my brother's snowsuit from when he was a kid! And she has on my old galoshes! How fun!!!

Katelyn is getting ready to race Carter in the downhill sledding competition!

Katelyn & Carter are having a great time sledding together!

If you look closely, you might be able to see that Tate actually has snow underneath his glasses! He thought that was pretty funny (and pretty cold!) and wanted me to take his picture.

Watch out for the patio Rachel!

Katelyn thinks sledding is sooooo much fun!

Rachel sledding down the hill.

Katelyn was pulling her sled up the hill while making sure she held onto her snowball!!

There were a few wipeouts, but everyone came up smiling!
