Katelyn had her 7 year check-up today. She weighed in at a whopping 36 pounds (fully clothed) and is 43 inches tall. That puts her in the 1st percentile or below for both categories. She's just going to be a petite little thing! Doctor said she's perfectly healthy! On her eye exam she was 20/60 in each eye, so we'll be going to the eye doctor soon. She has been complaining lately of having a hard time seeing things far away, so I thought we might be headed to the eye doctor. We'll see how that goes.

2010 Science Fair
This week was the Science Fair at the girls' school. Rachel's project was "Why Do I Have Blue Eyes?" and Katelyn's project was "Camouflage in Nature." Both girls did a great job on their projects! When the winners were announced, Rachel won 1st place in the 3rd & 4th grade poster division! She was so excited! She will now go on to compete in the county science fair. Katelyn was very disappointed that she didn't win and initially had a hard time with Rachel winning. This makes two "fairs" in a row that Rachel has won and Katelyn hasn't even placed. She cried for a while, but then has been fine since then. Sometimes it's hard being the little sister! Of course there have been other times when I've thought it's hard to be the big sister! Katelyn did really well at the awards tonight though, and was happy for all the winners.

Rachel's solo in church musical
Rachel was one of the main characters in the childrens choir musical "Under God's Sea in 3D." She played the character "Casey Bickerman" who was one of the Bickerman twins. The twins were not supposed to be identical, but Rachel and Abigail looked enough alike that you could believe they were sisters! They wore the exact same shorts from Kohl's with their choir shirts, and Abigail's mom bought them matching ribbons for their hair. They both wore their hair exactly the same way. Both girls also wear glasses! Abigail's glasses have blue frames, so Rachel wore her old glasses which also have blue frames! They did a really good job!!! This is the song that they both had solos in.

Katelyn's Follow-Up with Doctor
Katelyn had her follow-up with her doctor today regarding her knee surgery and she got the stitches taken out. Dr. Crawford was really pleased with how well she is doing! She still has some swelling and some fluid on her knee, but he said it may take a few weeks for all of that to go away. He said to just continue letting her do things she feels like doing until she's 100%. We're scheduled for physical therapy again next week, and then we'll re-evaluate and see if she needs another week. We did talk about Katelyn's right knee. Dr. Crawford said that the MRI shows that her right knee is almost identical to her left knee - she has discoid lateral meniscus in both knees. Her left knee is the one that had been giving her the most problems, but the doctor is afraid that her right knee will start bothering her in the near future. When he bends her right knee, it pops almost every time. He wants us to get her left knee completely healed and back to 100%, but then sometime after that, we'll need to think about getting her right knee fixed. We go back in 6 months to see him again - if Katelyn is having problems we'll go back earlier. But it looks like we'll be looking at having surgery on her right knee sometime in the next year or two. She is doing so well on her recovery! She has done so much better than we even imagined!!! She has not whined or complained near as much as we thought she might - she is our drama queen! But she has done so well!!!

Another Day, Another Tooth
Katelyn just lost her 6th tooth 2 days ago. At that time, she still had two other teeth loose. Tonight when she was getting ready for a bath, I helped her take her shirt off. She kind of whimpered and said "Ow! You got the shirt caught on my tooth!" I looked and her front baby tooth that was loose was bleeding a little bit. I just told her to go rinse her mouth. When she did, she then said "MOMMY!!! Look at my OTHER tooth!" Her other loose tooth had been sticking out some because her permanent tooth is coming in very crooked and very huge and was pushing the baby tooth out of the way! It has been sticking out so much that her lip would get caught on it! Anyway, when I looked at it, it was really sticking out and barely hanging on! I basically just touched it and it fell out. So the tooth fairy gets to visit again tonight!!!

Softball Season Has Begun
Today was Rachel's first softball game. Her team has only had one practice since 2 practices have been rained out. They didn't even have their uniforms until right before game time! Anyway, Rachel did great!!! She was so happy with her uniform and looked so cute in it. Her team is the Cubs. Rachel went 3 for 3 at the plate!!! She had 2 singles and a ground rule double. They set up cones in the outfield as a temporary fence. If the ball goes over the cones on the fly, it's a homerun. If it rolls past the cones, it's a ground rule double. So Rachel's last at bat she hit a long fly ball to right field that hit and rolled past the cones for a ground rule double.
Since the team had only had one practice, the coaches didn't really know where to put anyone in the field. So they let the girls play a few different positions. Rachel started out at 3rd base for the 1st two innings and then moved to right center field for the last two innings. She didn't have any balls in the field the entire time, which bummed her a little bit! But maybe she'll get some balls next week!

Easter 2010
We have had a great Easter! We started the morning out with the girls checking out their Easter buckets. They were excited to see their "goodies" that they got. Then we all headed to church. Since Katelyn is still needing help getting around, I went with her to her class. It was a good day at church! After church, we went to Mom & Dad's to grill burgers. Lloyd & Wendy went too. We played a little softball too! It was a beautiful day to be outside!!! Katelyn started walking more on her own today, and even hit a few softballs! It's pretty tough to basically stand on one leg and swing a softball bat! But she did well! She just hit a couple and then sat down in a chair and watched the rest of us. She was the cheering section, the umpire, and the heckler!!! We hung out at Mom & Dad's long enough that it was soon time for supper too, so we all stayed and ate supper! Katelyn enjoyed reading books and coloring with Wendy. Rachel went on a short run with Lloyd. It's been a good day!!!

Beautiful Spring Day
This afternoon turned out to be a beautiful afternoon! It was supposed to rain, but evidently the rain broke up before it got to us and we had sunshine and blue skies! We went to an Easter egg hunt! A couple from church invited a bunch of people over to hunt eggs and have snacks, so thought the girls would enjoy that. We stayed there for a little bit and then came home. I ran a quick couple of errands while the girls rested a little bit. Then it was time to play outside!!! We flew kites for awhile. Katelyn was able to fly a kit while sitting in a chair on the patio! That takes some talent!!! Our friends, Lily and Holly, came over and played for a while. Rachel and Holly spent most of their time in the sandbox. Lily flew a kite for awhile, and then came up on the patio and played a board game with Robert, Katelyn, and I. Too soon it was time for Lily and Holly to go home. We ended up eating supper on the patio and then playing outside some more. Katelyn decided she could swing, so she enjoyed doing that. And she was a daredevil going down the slide! We have to remember that the doctor said she could do whatever she felt like doing - she can't damage her knee. So Katelyn was able to enjoy the outdoors some too! Rachel and I threw a little softball since we think her first game is next week! She has really improved on her catching in the past couple of weeks. She has a pretty good arm too!

Pictures of Katelyn's 7th Birthday
Today was Katelyn's actual birthday. She has been celebrating for a week now! This morning Robert, Rachel, and I gave Katelyn her presents from us. Here's a slideshow from this morning:

My Baby is 7!!!
Today is Katelyn's 7th birthday! It's hard to believe that my baby is 7, but it's true!!! She woke up at 2:30 this morning to go to the bathroom and asked me what time it was. When I told her it was 2:30 a.m., she said. "Mommy, I'm 7!!!" So I sang Happy Birthday to her at 2:30 this morning!! Robert & Rachel fixed a birthday breakfast for her (pancakes, bacon, eggs, and biscuits) and then she opened her presents from the 3 of us. She was excited to get an Our Generation Doll (Target's version of an American Girl Doll), books, 2 new Leapster games, and a new small magna doodle for the car (her old one was in need of replacement!). She had been telling me she wanted new Leapster games, but all the ones I looked at were too young for her. She pretty much has all the ones that are for her level. But I found a couple of used games on Ebay that she didn't have, and they sounded like fun! They are two Schoolhouse Rock games! One is Grammar Rock and the other is America Rock. They have the songs on them that I used to watch on TV as a child.
We went to Home Depot this morning for the Kids Workshop. I didn't get any pictures since I was trying to help Katelyn stand on one foot while trying to hammer!! But the projects are really cute butterfly houses!! Maybe I'll take a picture of them here at home and post later.
After we got home from Home Depot, Lloyd & Wendy stopped by with Easter bags for the girls. They got all sorts of goodies! Books, M&M's, Peeps, cotton candy, pencils, chocolate, etc. As Lloyd & Wendy were leaving, Beth and Donald got here! They came just to visit for the day and to see how Katelyn is doing. They too came bearing gifts! The girls were so excited to see them!
Katelyn has walked a little today on her own. She actually got up and walked to the bathroom and back this morning all by herself. She was on the couch downstairs and I was upstairs taking a shower. Robert was upstairs too, so Katelyn just decided to try and walk by herself. She made it just fine! She told us she held onto things as she walked, but she made it! She really is doing great! I think she'll be able to go to church tomorrow, even if I have to stay with her to carry her. She starts physical therapy on Monday, so we'll see how that goes!

Thursday Morning Update
Katelyn had a good night last night. She was doing so well at bedtime that she didn't want to take any of the pain meds. I slept with her to make sure she was okay. Around 12:30 she woke up and when she tried to move she was in quite a bit of pain and cried. We gave her some pain meds then. She calmed down pretty quickly and went back to sleep. She woke up again around 4:00 to go to the bathroom and again at 5:30. She slept until about 7:15 and was ready to get up! She ate breakfast and then wanted to work on a workbook that her friends Mia & CJ had brought her. After doing that for awhile, she decided she wanted to get out the craft kit that Pastor Chris brought her. She made 2 keychains and then was ready to watch a movie. I moved her to the couch and got her comfortable with some ice on her knee, and then we started watching "The Princess and the Frog." Her friends, Kylee and Jacee, gave her that movie for her birthday. She hasn't had any of the prescription pain meds, but she did have some Motrin around 9:30 this morning. She hasn't been walking this morning like she did last night, but she might as the day goes on. I think she thought she'd wake up this morning and pick up where she left off last night - not realizing that after laying in bed for the night she'd be stiff and more sore than she was at bedtime last night. But I am very pleased with how well she did last night and how well she's doing.
