Children's Ministry Night/AWANA Awards Night

Last night at church was the Children's Ministry Night and AWANA Awards Night. Our children's pastor preached, the children's choir sang several songs, and the AWANA Awards were handed out to each group. AWANA stands for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed and is the program that our kids do on Wednesday nights. The Truth In Training (TNT) group is for those kids in 3rd-5th grade. The Sparks are for kids in kindergarten -2nd grade. The Cubbies is for the kids in pre-k and the year before pre-k. This has been Katelyn's 2nd year in Cubbies and Rachel's 2nd year in Sparks.

In Cubbies, each week the entire class works on the same Bible verse. If they say their Bible verse, the leader signs their book. They earn patches for their vest for learning their Bible verses, having good attendance at Cubbies, and having good attendance in Sunday School. Katelyn has earned all of her patches and completed her 2nd year book this year. Next year she will move up to Sparks.

In Sparks, the kids work at their own pace. Rachel finished her 2nd year book a couple of months ago and is already working on her 3rd year book. She got her award last night for finishing her 2nd book.

The kids choir sang several songs last night. Rachel is also on the praise team. On one of the songs, just the praise team sang. The director asked a few kids last night if they would hold microphones and sing into those during all the songs to help out. Most of the kids were all the older kids in the group. But Mrs. Kym asked Rachel to have a microphone too! She told Rachel that Rachel knows all the words to all the songs as well as anyone, so she wanted her to help out! Rachel did a good job! A few times she seemed to almost zone out and would just stare out into space as she sang, but overall she did a really good job!

Here's a slideshow of last night's events:
