Sunday morning we walked over to the beach after breakfast for a few minutes, but then it started to rain a little bit. We knew it was supposed to rain, but we were just trying to get in a few minutes on the beach! It ended up raining all day Sunday, so it was an inside day. By Sunday afternoon Rachel was still coughing non-stop, and didn't appear to be getting any better. She didn't feel bad, but she couldn't quit coughing. Her temp started to go up slightly also. It was only like 99.6, but that's a little high for Rachel. Her temp is usually 98.6 or below. Robert and I talked about it, and finally decided to take her to the hospital to get her checked out. We were both concerned that this was going to turn into something else, like maybe pneumonia. So we headed to the hospital in Fort Walton Beach. What else can you do on a rainy day at the beach?!?! Anyway, they checked her out and did a chest x-ray and determined that her lungs looked good. So pneumonia was ruled out. They told us to just keep doing what we were doing and it should start to get better. Poor thing - I felt bad when I was filling out her paperwork at the hospital. I had to list the medications she was taking and it was 7 different meds she was on (Flovent inhaler, Nasonex nose spray, Xyzal pill, Singulair pill, Xopenex breathing treatments, antibiotics for strep, and steroids). We gave Rachel a hard time about checking out ER's in various cities. From the best of our memory, she has been to the ER at Vanderbilt in Nashville, Children's Hospital in Knoxville, Cookeville Hospital, Ft. Loudoun in Lenoir City, and Fort Walton Beach Hospital.
It worked out nicely that Puddin had decided to cook tonight because she had supper ready for us when we got back from the ER. She fixed chicken tetrazzini - yummy!!!
Rachel in the exam room in the ER at Fort Walton Beach Hospital - doesn't she look thrilled to be there?!!?
