First Week of School

What a great first week of school! Rachel absolutely LOVES school! She has a wonderful teacher and a great group of kids in her class. I'm excited about this year for her! I think she's got some great friends in her class, and she's already made a new friend who just moved here. We had parent's night on Wednesday night, and I was able to talk to her teacher one-on-one; we had a great conversation! Rachel had a spelling test and vocabulary test on Friday. She has started out the year right by making a 106 on her spelling test and a 100 on her vocabulary test - the highest possible scores on each!!! Good job Rachel!!

We had our teacher conference/kindergarten testing with Katelyn's teacher on Friday. Katelyn did wonderful, just as I expected! She is so excited about starting school and I am excited for her! Her teacher is really sweet. We got a list of the things that Katelyn will learn by the end of the year, and I must brag on Katelyn and say that she pretty much already knows all the stuff on the list! What is funny is that last week when we would work on Rachel's spelling words and vocabulary words, Katelyn learned them too! She would sometimes answer the questions before Rachel would!!!

At our school here, the kindergarten kids don't start when the rest of the kids start. Instead, they start a week later, and it's staggered a bit. On Monday & Tuesday half of the class will go, then the other half of the class will go on Wednesday & Thursday. Then, ALL the kindergarten kids will go on Friday. Katelyn will be starting on Wednesday. I'll be sure to post about her 1st day in kindergarten!!!

I can't believe that my "baby" will be starting school this next week! I'm really happy for her though, because she is so excited about it! And I know that this is how it's supposed to be - it's part of life! It'll be different around here not having any kids here 5 days a week, but I'm sure I'll find something to do with my time! I hope to volunteer in both girls' classes and be actively involved at school. Our school is very open to having parents come & eat lunch with your kids, so I'm sure I'll be there many days eating lunch with them! Luckily, they have lunch back-to-back!
