It's Basketball Time in Lenoir City!!!

Today was the first day of basketball games for the girls.  Rachel and Katelyn are both playing Upward Basketball at our church.  Rachel plays in the 3rd & 4th grade girls division, and Katelyn plays in the 1st & 2nd grade girls division.  Robert & I are coaching both teams.  Katelyn's game was first.  Her team played so well!!  Robert & I were pleasantly surprised at how well they actually did!  Our team won 22-18, although they don't officially keep score for that age group. But of course, I was keeping score on my coach's book!!!  Anyway, I thought that was quite a high-scoring game for the 1st & 2nd graders' first game of the season!  Katelyn played awesome!!!  She is a dribbling machine!  She played good defense too.  It's funny because she looks her girl right in the eye as if to say "I dare you to try to get around me!"  She smiles the entire time too!!!  And yes - if you're wondering - she is the smallest one out there!  She would make some really good moves and get by her girl and drive to the basket.  However, she wasn't able to make a basket today.  She did get some up to the rim, but nothing went in.  She's just so small and weak that it's hard for her to get the ball up there.  But she can make a shot every now and then, so maybe she will score in a game this year!

Rachel's team won also, 34-28!  They actually do keep score in her age group!  Rachel played awesome!  She is a GREAT defender!  She keeps her hands out and slides her feet so well.  She had some steals and stole at least one pass.  She scored 4 points also, and had more chances than that but didn't make the shots.  She played so well!!!  Rachel can handle the ball pretty well too and did a good job of passing the ball to her teammates.  Rachel did jam her pinky in the last period of the game, but I think she'll survive!  She's complained about it a little throughout the day, but it isn't swollen much, if at all, so I think it's okay.  We did put ice on it when we got home, and actually taped it to her ring finger for a couple of hours to keep it straight.  But then it started feeling better and she wanted the tape off. But I'm pretty sure we won't have to amputate!!!

I took a few pictures, but for whatever reason, my pictures that I take in that gym never turn out very well.  Oh well.  But I'll post what I have.
