It's hard to believe that the first week of summer break has already come and gone! Here's a recap of what we've done:
Monday (Memorial Day): We made a Memorial Day trip to Home Depot for some plants and landscaping pavers. I replaced some hanging pots and then we made a flower bed on one side of the shed. I trimmed some of the bushes (the ones that I could actually reach - the ones that have gotten too tall will have to wait for Robert and a ladder!) and the girls played outside. It was an outside kind of day with lots of work and some play!
Tuesday: The girls were supposed to go to Dollywood with Mamaw & Papaw, but since the forecast called for a 60% chance of rain, they decided to postpone it to another day. But when we got up and ate breakfast, the sun was shining. The girls asked about going to the zoo since we have season passes. I thought "Why not?" So we quickly threw on some clothes and headed to the zoo for a few hours. Mamaw & Papaw stopped by and ended up eating supper with us That evening Robert took Rachel to swim practice while Katelyn and I stayed home and worked on VBS stuff with Mamaw & Papaw.
Wednesday: Rachel had swim practice Wed. morning. Afterwards, we did some stuff around the house and worked on VBS stuff. Rachel was supposed to go to a birthday party Wed. evening, but it was postponed due to strep throat! Instead, Rachel & Katelyn ended up going to play with their friends Emily & Macy for a few hours while I ran some errands. Later, Robert & I mowed the yard while the girls watched an American Girl movie.
Thursday: Once again we worked on VBS stuff!!! The girls and I also took a walk and helped round up a runaway dog! One of our neighbors had accidentally let their inside dog out and the dog was running all over the neighborhood enjoying her freedom! Our neighbor is on oxygen, so it's hard for him to chase the dog. It was a team effort and the dog was finally caught. The girls played outside some and we cleaned out the garage. Rachel had swim practice again Thursday night. I played softball for my parents' church team since they were short a few players. It was lots of fun!
Friday: The girls went to Dollywood with Mamaw & Papaw. I played tennis! Afterwards, Robert & I did a ton of yardwork! We mulched all of the landscaping, trimmed more bushes that had gotten out of control, and moved dirt to fill in holes and ruts where trucks had been in the back yard pouring the concrete pad for our shed. It was lots of manual labor!
Saturday: The girls and I went to a friend's house to work on VBS stuff. I'm in charge of preschool crafts and she's in charge of elementary kids' crafts. We worked on making some decorations to hang from the ceiling, and the kids helped us paint them. While we were gone, Robert mowed the yard and seeded & strawed the areas we had filled with dirt earlier. Saturday afternoon we went to Mamaw & Papaw's house to swim. Rachel got right in and played the entire time. Katelyn got in and played some, but said it was a little cold. Robert got in and played too, but I just sat on the side and watched! I did get splashed and it was cold!!
Sunday: Church day! After church, we went to Mamaw & Papaw's house to swim again! Lloyd met us there too. Robert had to leave and go play tennis. We left in time to get home and get stuff ready to head back to church. The girls had praise team at 5:00 and then summer stuff at church at 6:00. Last night they sang, had a devotion, and then went outside and played on a waterslide!
So there's a recap of our week. It has involved lots of yard work, playtime, swim practice, and prep work on VBS crafts! This upcoming week will hold more of the same, along with Katelyn's track practice starting! Lots of fun! I do have pictures from the zoo that I'll post sometime!

Sounds like a busy week! Can I hire you and Robert to come work on our landscaping? (or lack there-of?) Ha! Not something I'm spending much time on! Helen is SO excited that she is old enough to come to VBS this year! I guess you will see her in pre-school crafts! Thanks for all of the work you are doing to prepare! I know that the kids will love it!
Andie,
I'll be looking for Helen this year!!! Good luck with all your preparations for going to Ethiopia to bring home Will!!! How exciting! Our former pastor in Smyrna just passed their court date so they'll be heading to Ethiopia soon to bring home their little girl, Alyza Kate.
