Katelyn's Birthday

As I posted yesterday, Katelyn turned 5 YEARS OLD yesterday! She started out her morning by opening presents from Mommy, Daddy, and Rachel. She had seen a Little Mommy doll on clearance at Wal-Mart a few weeks ago, and decided that she wanted one of those for her birthday. And of course, she got it! But who can resist it if it's on clearance?!?!? Anyway, this doll is supposed to make lifelike baby sounds. When you get the doll and put the batteries in it and turn it on, it asks you to name the baby. Katelyn named her Jaycee. Now the doll calls Katelyn "mama" and responds to her voice! She "drinks" her milk bottle and sometimes burps when she's finished; she says she's sleepy and asks for her blanky; she also asks for teddy; she says I love you mama; she plays peekaboo; and a few other things. Katelyn really does like this baby doll! I'm glad we got it for her.

Another thing that she had asked for is books - lots of books! So books were a gift too! Rachel got Katelyn two mini Barbies. One was from the 12 Dancing Princesses and the other was from The Island Princess. This is very appropriate for Katelyn because she decided she wanted an Island Princess cake for her party with friends!!!

Another gift that Katelyn got from us was a 3-drawer desktop storage tray full of a variety of paper, tape, and glue sticks!!! You see, Katelyn loves to make things out of paper! She is constantly making little books for people. She loves to cut the paper, and then glue or tape it together to make something! So I got her a ream of white copy paper, some colored cardstock, and some other colored paper in a variety of sizes!

Last night we had a little birthday party with Mamaw & Papaw and Lloyd & Wendy. Wendy's birthday was Monday, so we combined and had a birthday party for both Katelyn & Wendy together. Wendy likes turtles, so I made a cake and tried to decorate it with a turtle. I think it turned out kind of cute with the mini M&M's on the turtle's shell! What do you think?

Katelyn got some cool stuff from Mamaw & Papaw, including a new shorts outfit, some color by number coloring books, an outdoor adventure kit, and money! Katelyn also got some really neat stuff from Lloyd & Wendy, including Backyardigans books and figures, a really cool skort outfit, and a potholder making kit!

We had a good evening eating steaks, cake, & ice cream!

Katelyn's party with friends is tomorrow afternoon. It's supposed to be an outside backyard pizza party, but it's looking like rain, so it may be an indoor party. Last year it rained out Katelyn's outside party too and we had to move it indoors. We've got a backup plan though. If we have to move inside, we'll set up a craft studio in the garage. I've got stuff to make necklaces & bracelets, paint pictures, make foam bookmarks, make fairies, decorate journals, color pictures, and play with play-doh! I really hope we can do it outside, but if not, we'll be fine! I'll post about her party with friends after it happens.

Enjoy the slideshow from Katelyn's birthday.

Katelyn is so cute! I can't believe she's five. Tell my (hopefully) future kindergarten I said, "Happy belated Birthday!" I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she'll be in my class next year...your help once again wouldn't be horrible either! :)
