A Month of "Firsts"

The month of August has been a month of "firsts" for us. Katelyn started a mother's day out program a couple of weeks ago. When I took her the first day she practically ran into her classroom, handed me her backpack and lunchbox, and then started playing. I tried to tell her good-bye, but she hardly even acknowledged me! She finally did manage to turn around and give me a half-hearted wave! It was such a traumatic experience for her - yeah right!! Katelyn took everything in stride. She absolutely loves going to "school!" Here's a picture of her on her first day. She was quite excited! Amanda - recognize the backpack? She picked out the lunchbox herself - it's UT orange! Go Vols!!!

The day after Katelyn started Mother's Day Out was Rachel's first day of kindergarten! WOW!! It's so hard to believe that she's old enough to be in kindergarten!!! She loves it and has done well with the adjustment. I think she has high expectations of kindergarten though. When I picked her up the first day I asked about her day. She said it was good. I asked her if she learned anything and she said, "No, and I didn't learn how to read!" Like I said - she has high expectations!!! She has several little girls in her class that are from our church, so that has made it easier on her. One of her buddies actually sits at the same table as Rachel. The teacher seems to be super nice and genuinely enjoys the kids. I have volunteered to be a parent helper, but haven't actually been in the classroom yet. I did attend the training session last week, so now I'm ready to copy things and laminate things. What exciting times!!

OK I've never done this before so I hope I do it right and you get it. I can't believe Rachel is in Kindergarten! How time flies. Her and Katelyn are the cutest things. When will Katelyn start Kindergarten? Eli and Anna are going to be only one grade apart, so my life will change drastically from being at home with 2 to none so fast.
